Paranormal romance is a genre that blends the allure of love and the mystique of supernatural elements. It’s like a delicious concoction of romance, fantasy, and a touch of otherworldly magic. Picture swoon-worthy vampires, seductive werewolves, enchanting witches, and all manner of other supernatural beings (Elementals! 😀), mingling with ordinary folks in extraordinary circumstances.
Paranormal romance, or PNR, is my FAVORITE genre to read, and to write.
Paranormal Romance Books
What makes paranormal romance novels so irresistible? Well, it’s all about the fusion of the extraordinary and the ordinary. Think about it—what could be more exciting than a torrid love affair between a mortal and a creature from the supernatural realms? Sparks fly, hearts race and forbidden passions ignite as these worlds collide.
One of the things that sets paranormal romance apart is its ability to transport us to realms beyond our mundane lives. From enchanted castles hidden deep within ancient forests to bustling vampire covens in the heart of modern cities, the settings are as diverse as the characters themselves. These immersive worlds allow us to escape reality and lose ourselves in a love story that transcends the ordinary. I love the escape of these books- both from my life and from the world at large, which hardly seems magical in the light of day.
Creatures in Paranormal Romance
The paranormal romance genre may include things like:
- Werewolf romances
- Vampire romances
- Vampire/werewolf romances (Lol)
- Other kinds of shifter romances, including bears, leopards, lions, panthers, and more unusual shifters like horses, rabbits etc.
- Dragon shifter romances
- Witch/Sorcerer romances
- Ghosts and other undead romances (zombie romance, anyone?)
- Psychic romances (often combined with witches or ghosts)
- Demon & Devil romances (and by extension, Angel romances)
- Gargoyle romances
- Fae romances (though this is more common in Fantasy romance, it can definitely be found in PNR)
- The emerging subgenre of Monster romance – Beastly, scary heroes with extra fur, fangs, teeth, and other bits, and they don’t have a human form!
- Other miscellaneous creatures. Like Elementals in my case. 🙂
Love Knows No Bounds In Supernatural Romance Books
In supernatural romance, love knows no bounds. It defies societal norms, challenges the laws of nature, and treads where mortals fear to go. It explores themes of destiny, sacrifice, and the triumph of love over adversity. Whether it’s a human falling for a seductive vampire, a shapeshifter entangled in a web of passion, or a witch torn between light and dark, the emotional rollercoaster of paranormal romance keeps us on the edge of our seats. I believe in boundless love, I believe in soul mates and destined lovers, and finding that one person in all of the world, in all of the worlds–in all of time–that you belong to and belongs to you.

Paranormal Romance Authors
Now, let’s talk about the paranormal romance authors who weave these enchanting tales. They possess an uncanny ability to make the impossible seem plausible and to create characters who jump off the page and straight into our hearts. These talented writers have the power to make us believe in love that transcends time, space, and even mortality. With their words, they paint vivid scenes, evoke intense emotions, and leave us yearning for more.
I say “they” because I don’t necessarily consider myself one of those top-tier PNR authors. I’m not trying to do any of that. I just try to tell the story I see in my mind’s eye, in a way that makes the reader feel like they are there, either as a spectator, or ideally, as one of the protagonists! And because I will always, first and foremost, be a reader.
Why We Love Paranormal Romance
As readers, we get to be adventurers, explorers of the supernatural, and witnesses to extraordinary love stories. We experience the heartache, the passion, and the triumph alongside the characters, rooting for their love to conquer all. Paranormal romance books allow us to suspend our disbelief, indulge our fantasies, and revel in the magic of the unknown.
Remember, in the realm of adult paranormal romance, anything is possible, and love conquers all.
